Amazon is in charge now and to be quite honest, lately I'm begining to feel like Amazon has the midas' touch of ebooks --- if midas' touch was the swine flu instead of gold.

They always know just the right way to completely ruin technology that is on a roll. Their product is shoddy at best, and instead of improving it they have a pattern of monopolizing the business and killing technology that does work. I only hope they don't do this with Stanza....

In addition, some retailers have really stepped up the reading experience. Take for example BooksOnBoard ( it's listed on the top spot in Stanza catalog).

BooksOnBoard has developed a QikClik technology that takes 3 clicks from selection to download, so I don't have to go through the huge hassle of most retailers (including Amazon) which made me hesitant on ereading in early on.

With Amazon taking over Lexcycle what will happen to technological advances like this? Will we be left with the same old Kindle problems ? will all the good advances be swept under the rug in order for Amazon to stay on top?

Personally, I just want my reading experience to keep improving. There are still alot of bugs that need to be worked out to make it simpler, but I'm afraid that if Amazon keeps aquiring rather than making advances --the readers will be the ones left with the short end of the stickAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7888403915883527494.post-56267676166811500032009-04-28T14:14:00.000-04:002009-04-28T14:14:00.000-04:00You had me until the end Mike. For now, Lexcycle/Stanza will continue in its current format, but what about in a year or two? Look at what Amazon has done to us before. Can you buy ebooks on Amazon outside of the Kindle format anymore? At all the books I've looked at on their website, it's all Kindle, all of the time. Where did my option go to buy Microsoft eReader books, or Adobe .pdf or Mobipocket books? They're all gone. The danger lies in letting Amazon control all things book. They are big enough now that they are already dictating what happens in some areas- what about the future?Mehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01588761833126962855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7888403915883527494.post-59330463076876186852009-04-28T10:51:00.000-04:002009-04-28T10:51:00.000-04:00>>>I just can't see the government st...>>>I just can't see the government stepping in to set digital publishing standards.

Think deeper about how far all of this extends into all levels of society. It's more likely they would set a standard for government document (PDF is already the defacto standard). Still, they'd leave the commercial marketplace to sort it out on their own.

At some point Amazon is going to start raising some antitrust flags.
